The journey to now.
I had celebrated a milestone birthday. I’ve never been too sentimental about birthdays, but for whatever reason I found myself suddenly taking a closer look at the future. My husband and I had always lived and worked with a creative backdrop and believed that artists undervalued their work. And that we could help to sustain their growth. I found myself tired of talking about it and decided now was the time to do it.
My career spans over 30 years as a brand strategist consultant and a co-founder of a marketing firm. I’ve always been immersed with creatives and part of the creative community. I would use those experiences to create BOJUart.
In 2018 BOJUart was launched in Virginia Beach’s ViBe Creative District. The gallery initially focused on art consulting for commercial and interior designers, and later added the retail gallery and exhibitions.
In late 2019 we decided to leave the brick and mortar model temporarily, in search of a new location. We continued the quest of broadening the gallery’s reach by exhibiting work online, at pop-ups and art fairs. That lead us to Richmond, Virginia participating in the CURRENT Art Fair and pop-ups in the Richmond Arts District through the spring of 2020.
In late winter 2020, we signed a letter of intent to launch a new gallery location in the heart of the Virginia Beach oceanfront. Timing is everything. That week the coronavirus (COVID-19) hit. Things turned upside down. Galleries were shuttered indefinitely. With ongoing tremors, government restrictions, and waiting the retail impact from the COVID-19 pandemic, unfortunately, the new gallery is delayed as live exhibitions have been affected by this health crisis.
Since our inception all of our artists’ work has been posted in our online store. So, that’s been a fortunate advantage for us. Moving forward, we’re curating new online programs highlight multi-disciplinary artists and provide the “gallery” experience to our collectors.
We look forward to the moment when the streets will be bustling, with galleries and museums full of people.
In the interim, stay safe and enjoy the artists' work.
