Bob Petersen: Exhibiting at the Norfolk Botanical Garden

BOJUart gallery is pleased to announce that BOJUart photographer Bob Petersen is exhibiting in Color and Light on display at the Norfolk Botanical Garden from May 1 to June 30, 2019.

Color and Light
Color and Light: A shared exhibition featuring the work of ceramic and watercolor artist Sidra Kaluska and photographer Bob Petersen on display at Norfolk Botanical Garden from May 1 to June 30, 2019.

Petersen’s large-scale environmental photography explores nature, translating it into selective detail and viewed large. From deeply lit sunflowers and camellias to the abstract quality of a gumball and mimosa to the graphic patterns created by our coastline, he explores the emotional and impact of the chaotic yet organized textures of nature. The exhibit will feature his “Floral” series, including new work inspired and photographed at the Norfolk Botanical Garden. The limited edition prints are on a textured rag cotton paper to push the photographic image to favor the feel of a hand applied medium. This method causes the image to go beyond the expected to create a contemplative impact in viewers with simple images that evoke emotion.

The exhibition space at Norfolk Botanical Garden is located in Baker Hall Visitor Center. The Visitor Center is the starting point for guests touring the Garden during the day and is also the site of after-hours functions such as weddings and corporate parties. “Having local and regional artists featured at Norfolk Botanical Garden has been a great way to  blend the natural outdoor arts of the Garden with creative arts,” said Norfolk Botanical Garden President and CEO Michael Desplaines. “We have displayed many works of arts in our Baker Hall exhibit space where many painters, photographers, and sculptors have shown off their very talented skills. It’s been a great added experience for the visitor! ” he said.

Work in the exhibition is available for sale at the Norfolk Botanical Garden Gift Shop. Other work and limited edition sizes available for sale at the gallery, online or by phone.

Bob Petersen
Petersen works out of BOJUart (a hybrid of his name Bob and his wife and creative partner Judy), a studio gallery located in the Virginia Beach’s new creative ViBe District, as well as his home studio in Virginia Beach.

Petersen received a BFA in Visual Communication Design and Illustration from Kent State University with a curriculum including film photography that has provided a base for his current use of digital medium format photography. As an advertising Creative Director for over 30 years working on regional and national accounts, Petersen has won over 75 creative advertising awards. As a Creative Director, he has collaborated with renowned commercial photographers. Exploring creative self-growth now leads his current path in photography, blending his fine art and advertising art background. His coastal Virginia inspired “Coastal Waterways” series is an abstract interpretation of the natural and repetitive nature of the water and coastal landscapes, while his “Floral” series uses narrow depth of field with large-scale images to draw a startling response. He recently introduced his new creative work at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Boardwalk Art Show. Petersen has also shown in the MOCA Waterways exhibit and at Capital One, as well as personal shows in the BOJUart Gallery.

BOJUart donates a portion of each limited edition print sold in the “Floral” series to the Norfolk Botanical Garden and his “Coastal Waterway” series to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, to emphasize the need to preserve and protect these local resources.
