The inside color being different than the outside is tricky. When Lindenberger makes the spiky objects they are finished on a small piece of kiln shelf, which goes directly into the kiln and dries there for firing. After firing, she uses a wax over the outer area which has been glazed in clear, and applies the turquoise inside, carefully pouring out to avoid it getting into small crevices. After the high firing, they are actually quite strong.
